In a thermal power plant, fans are core equipment ensuring efficient boiler combustion and flue gas emissions.

Forced draft fans primarily provide the boiler with primary air (for transporting pulverized coal) and secondary air (to aid combustion and ensure complete combustion of pulverized coal); while induced draft fans are responsible for extracting the high-temperature, dust-laden flue gas from the furnace after combustion. Their materials and structures require special design to withstand wear, demanding higher technical standards.

In addition, there are auxiliary equipment such as pulverized coal fans and desulfurization fans. Forced and induced draft fans are classified as centrifugal or axial flow fans. Small and medium-sized units mostly use centrifugal fans, while large and extra-large units (such as those above 600,000 kW) generally use axial flow fans to meet the demands of high flow rates and high efficiency.
